FAQs
I just received a new blower, now what?
  • Your blower must be properly lubricated before operation. Blowers are shipped dry, and need the proper amount of oil prior to installation and operation. Air & Gas Systems provides all product manuals for download on our website - see below in "Blower Documents."
I have a Tuthill Competitor blower, what kind of lubrication is required?
  • To get the best efficiency out of your blower and to ensure long life, proper lubrication is key. We recommend using PneuLube™ synthetic oil from Tuthill - we stock cases of PneuLube™ oil.
  • Some Tuthill blowers utilize grease on the drive end, in such cases we recommend PneuLube™ Lithium Comlex Grease - in stock as well.
My blower is making a high pitched grinding sound, what should I do?
  • Typically this type of sound is a result of worn out bearings that need to be changed. We can handle any type of blower repair on any blower brand. DO NOT TRY TO CHANGE BLOWER BEARINGS ON YOUR OWN, OR REPLACE THEM WITH STANDARD BEARINGS! Tuthill manufacturers custom ground bearings that provide longer life, and these bearings must be installed properly to ensure exact timing and clearances between the lobes. Contact us today for a free estimate.
What should I do if my blower won't turn?
  • If you have properly lubricated your blower, then typically if a blower won't turn over it is because either the bearings are completely shot or some product has become built up inside the blower housing. In most cases, an overhaul on your blower will need to be done. We can handle any type of blower repair on any blower brand. Contact us today for a free estimate.
How often should I clean or change my filter?
  • Generally a filter should be replaced or cleaned when the pressure drop on your blower exceeds 10" to 15" w.c. (water column) or 0.4 PSI to 0.6 PSI. Felt, polyester and wire media filters can generally be cleaned and typically do not need to be replaced. However, paper media elements are often considered disposable and cannot be cleaned. We stock quality filters, contact us for a free estimate.
I can't read the nameplate on my blower, how can I tell what model I have?
  • There are a number of ways you can identify your blower model without looking at the nameplate:
  • Measure the following on your blower:
    • Housing length, from end plate to end plate
    • Distance between shaft centers
    • Shaft diameter
    • Connection size
  • Determine the following features of your blower:
    • Is the pipe connection threaded, flanged or have a special adapter?
    • Are the feet bolt on or are they cast as part of the headplate?
    • Is the flow through your blower horizontal or vertical?
  • Contact us for help on determining what blower model you have?
